Sun. Oct. 12, 1980 (Sun)

Too many things have happened since I last wrote... since then we took a trip to California & camped most of the way out there and back. We went to Yellowstone National Park, Nauvoo, Salt Lake, Redwood Forest, Yosemite Park and down into Arizona to see my cousin, the Chandlers (who are members of the Church) and back to Kentucky and then back home. We had a good time! We stayed in motels about once a week - when my children get grown I don't think I will ever camp again... always find the rocks and bumps under my sleeping bag.

Since the last writing, Don has been transferred to Charlotte, N.C. We like it here... we have been here almost a year now, we found a nice home with lots of room. Don and I were called to be the Blazer Leaders... then in about 2 months I was called to be 1st. Counselor in Primary... and Don to Scout Master. About 2 months later I was called to be R.S. President and last month (or the month before) Don was called to be the Membership Clerk. We have really gone up in Visiting Teaching but still have problems. We are really working hard on having good Work Meetings and other meetings. We had a Visiting Teaching Luncheon- it was real nice... but not too many attended. Tonight there will be a wedding reception for Mike and M. Howard... they were married in the temple Friday. This coming Friday we are having our Opening Social - a fashion show... and Saturday night is the Stake Harvest Ball, so lots of things to do this week.

My brother, Buford, and his wife, Eva, came down Thursday and left yesterday afternoon. We did a lot of shopping and enjoyed them very much - I am glad they could come. The kids are growing - they like their schools. "Chuck is in High School... now a 10th. grader (I am now waiting for him to get out of swimming... next year he can drive himself over here). He went to my mother's and worked in the store this summer.. he started liking the little girl next door but now he has met a girl at their Seminary Super Saturday (she lives in South Carolina). He is a little shy and I like that... he won't be 15 until next month and we don't want to push this thing. IBM sent Don to some kind of school in New York for about 3 weeks... and then he got his second IBM Service Award before he left IBM's Washington East Office. This spring he attended a week in San Francisco at an IBM Service Award Conference... some lavish affair Admiral Elmo Zumwalt was the keynote speaker and his talk was about Women in the Workplace. Donna is really doing well in school... she was asked to be a reporter for the school, but refused the offer because she was afraid she wouldn't have enough time to do her work. A couple of girls called her for help on their math... this made her feel good!

John made the school Choir this year and he likes that. Dani is in the 3rd. grade and can really read. We are all healthy... and busy... and happy. We got a birth announcement from Donna Law yesterday - no. 9 - named Joshua Rae (?). "Chuck" has finished his Merit Badge (requirements) and has filled out the (paperwork for) his Eagle Scout Project. He is just waiting for the Troop Committee Chairman to hand it back so he can get it turned in and approved by the Boy Scout of America. John is a Blazer now and I need to get to work with him on his badges. "Chuck" had another Mormon Encampment this summer... this one was in Florida on the Church Ranch. They went to Disney World one day (while they were there)... the whole thing was a good experience.

Yesterday I did the ironing and put peaches and grapes in the freezer.  Today I spent most of the day sewing some curtains for D...
