EMPLOYMENT RESOURCE CENTER
Rachel asked Papaw what he did at the ERC (Employment Resource Center) and he answered, "Duh..."
Church Service Missionaries try to assist candidates at various levels of job readiness. There are those who do not know how to use a computer, no email address and wouldn't know what to do with it if they had one. We try to help these folks by setting them up with a free email (user name and password), LDS Account and then have them create a profile on ldsjobs.org. When they register on ldsjobs.org, we will be able to forward information on employment opportunities... and the system can produce a rough draft of a resume for their use. We then show the candidate how to search for a job with various web sites and note the local list of Employment Agencies they might use to find employment.
We would like to have all our job candidates create a profile on ldsjobs.org, invite them to our two day Career Workshop to learn interviewing skills and various ways to search for a job.
Professional Candidates are informed of the Professional Program and the Networking Meeting held at the LDS Business College at 300 West North Temple in Salt Lake. This program also offers Resume Class and Individual Review, Career Workshop for Professionals, Networking & skills review, Job Interview practice on video, and Self Employment Introduction Class.
We let folks know that they can improve on starting a business with the Self-Employment Program that is held at the LDS Institute of Religion (4554 South 2025 West, Room 103) adjacent to SLCC. To register call (801) 988-4455.
Our doors are open to all... first come, first served. Many people drop in to use the computers or the fax machine for employment related items.
Church Service Missionaries are usually scheduled to work two days a week for 12 months. They will be assigned to work with leaders and job seeking candidates of a specific stake. All active job candidates should be contacted at least once every two weeks to see how they are doing on their job search and what help they might need.
Missionaries help the candidates with resumes and profiles on ldsjobs.org as much as is necessary and always try to keep in mind that the Lord's way is for folks to be self-reliant as much as possible. We would like to help them become self-reliant in their employment.

Mamaw says, "Here are the things I did today: I got up early, studied, looked at the blog, made breakfast, washed dishes, made my bed, wrote Buddy a letter that I haven't mailed yet, went on neighborhood watch and then decided to go to Donna's house (I invited Claudia to go with me and Papaw). Claudia took a tour of the place and we had lunch on Donna's porch. When we came home I took a nap, picked zucchini, made dinner and then pulled dead flowers and weeds after our front yard got shaded from the sun. I am now going to watch a little TV and go to bed. We love all of you!
Papaw prepared a small package (not room for much in these small boxes) and mailed it to relatives living a long way off on an island. He took Elizabeth's goldfish over to Donna's for her pond. This afternoon he did some mowing but didn't get the grass under his tree branches (I think he was about to run out of daylight).
Love,
Mamaw & Papaw
