DENTAL & TIRES

Papaw went to the dentist for a check up this morning and got his teeth cleaned.

Later he went to Discount Tire Company and got two new tires on Mamaw's car (now all 4 are new).

Mamaw says:  I got up early, studied, read, cooked breakfast, washed dishes, did the laundry, visited DI, checked out a couple of Walmart stores, went home and had lunch, folded the laundry and put it away, cooked dinner, washed dishes, had FHE and now I am watching TV.  I tried to call Sister Torgerson to help her do her neighborhood emergency preparedness visits but she didn't answer the phone.

We love all of you!!!

STAKER PARTY

We went to Erda today and saw many of the Staker clan before going to a musical with them.  Donna had a couple of pots of soup and salads for supper before the event.

Sara went to care for her flock of chickens and came back into the house with a three eggs in her basket.  That's a perfect score for three hens and a rooster.

We love all of you!!!

ALF WAY!

Papaw thinks it is great to be half way through winter!  We had a lot of sunshine today and half of the snow in our yard melted away.  The bald headed geek went out and bought some register deflectors to put in our dining room and then installed new headers for the blinds in our front window (Mamaw was tired of having
to tug at the blinds to get them closed).

Mamaw says:  I got up early, studied, read, made my bed, made breakfast, washed dishes, did some more cupcakes, went to Sister Drake's and got a perm, came home and made lunch, made some phone calls (not many), did some more cupcakes and a pizza and then cleaned the kitchen.  Michelle, Hanna and Saria are here now doing their homework with our wireless connection.  I am watching TV and will go to bed soon.  We love all of you!!!

 ERC BUSY DAY

Papaw had a busy day at the ERC.  Apparently he hasn't spent enough time training the other CSM's.

Mamaw says:  I got up early, studied, read, made my bed, waited and waited  for Papaw to wake up, cooked breakfast, washed dishes, made brownies and cupcakes + decorated them, had lunch, took a nap, decorated some more cookies, made some phone calls, cleaned the kitchen, wrapped some things, and cleaned the family room.  Papaw fixed us some leftovers for supper and I am watching TV.  We will go to bed soon.  We love all of you!!!

STILL LOOKING

Papaw is still looking for that groundhog to tell him when spring will blow into WVC.

Mamaw says:  I got up early, studied, read, made waffles for breakfast, washed dishes, made beds and went to Walmart, came home and made cup cakes for Papaw to take to the ERC tomorrow (their receptionist is leaving), we had lunch (dumplings on chicken broth), made a casserole, took a nap, decorated the cup cakes, made dinner, washed dishes again and then made some phone calls for John.  I am going to watch TV and go to bed soon.  We love all of you!!!

STOCKPILING

Papaw ran out of salt and had to go to Home Depot for more... it looked like everyone in line was purchasing one or more bags of salt for the new snow that is forecast for tonight.  Some folks are buying the cheaper type of salt that is made for water softeners but that kind will eat up your concrete.  Use Ice Melter.

Mamaw says:  I got up early, studied, read, made breakfast, washed dishes, made beds, did the laundry, folded the clothes and put away everything.  I talked to Buford and watched Papaw shovel snow.  It was reported that the airport got 9 inches of snow with this storm.  We were glad to see the sun come out and melt some of the stuff, especially since the forecast is for 2 to 4 inches more tonight.  I made lunch, took a nap, went HT with Papaw and am now going to watch some TV.  Papaw is on his own for dinner and we have plenty of left overs to keep him fed.  We love all of you!!!

MORE SNOW

We had another snow last night and it left us about 4 or 5 inches on the driveway.

Papaw's shovels are about to get worn out before he does.

On Sunday, Mamaw said:  I got up early, studied, read, made breakfast, got ready and went to church (ward conference), came home, had lunch (spaghetti, can you believe that??? and Justin wasn't even here), took a nap, talked to Kristine, John & Donna and watched some news.  It has snowed all afternoon and is still coming down... seems as though we will never get out of winter.  Papaw keeps wishing for groundhog day to get here so we can see if it sees it's shadow.  We will be glad for spring!!!  I am going to watch TV and it will soon be time to go to bed.  We love all of you!!!

HEAT WAVE

We enjoyed a heat wave today with temperatures in the high 30's.  Papaw joined other HP in our ward building cleaning assignment at 8:00 this morning and then took his woman to the JR temple for the 10:00 AM session (several changes have been made to the temple interior).  This afternoon he took down most of the Christmas decorations on the fence (we have had one frozen month).

Claudia came over for a visit this afternoon.  Mamaw made several calls to folks on the lists that John gave her and has had a variety of responses to the survey questions.

We love all of you!!!

ICE

Papaw had to scrape the ice off his windshield before going to the ERC today.  It rained ice this morning and caused a real mess on I-15 north of Salt Lake City.

Mamaw says:  I got up early, studied, read, cooked breakfast, washed dishes, cleaned blinds and window in the laundry room, had lunch, talked to Chuck & John and took a nap.  Sue Breeding called and we had a nice long talk.  Papaw got home a little early from the ERC and I was glad because the roads had been solid ice earlier today.   I am going to watch a little TV and then go to bed.  We love all of you!!!

 NW, HT, SNOOZ

Papaw and Mamaw did their Wednesday morning neighborhood watch this morning.  Mamaw was planning to go home teaching with him to visit Sister Mc Rae but cancelled out because Kristine was on her way to visit.  Your grandparents spent most of the afternoon snoozing (we are hibernating!!!).

Mamaw says:  I got up early, studied, read, cooked breakfast, washed dishes, made a pot of bean soup and went on neighborhood watch.  Kristine came up and brought a list of names for me to call for John (he is thinking about running for a political office and asked me to make some calls for him).  We had lunch, took a nap, watched TV, made dinner, washed dishes again and will soon be ready for bed.  The wind has cleared the bad air a little this afternoon... we can now see the outline of our mountains to the west.  The weather man said we may have some snow and freezing rain in the morning... that doesn't sound too good.  We love all of you!!!

BREAKFAST

Papaw took some rice and raisins to his zone conference breakfast today.  This afternoon he discovered three of our stake job candidates now have jobs... only 14 more and we will be fully employed.

Mamaw says:  I got up early, studied, read, made rice-raisins & biscuits for Papaw to take to the ERC, did the ironing, washed dishes, made my bed, but up clean curtains in the back bathroom & back door, made homemade pizza for supper, washed the dishes again and now I am going to watch TV (In Search of the Castaways) for a little while before going to bed.  We love all of you!!!

BEN FRANKLIN

Papaw finished reading Ben Franklin's autobiography today.  It was an interesting story but failed to take us past year 1757 (and his part during the revolution).

Mamaw says:  I got up early, studied, made breakfast, washed dishes, made my bed and started the laundry.  Papaw and I went to visit Sister Chapman for his HT visit (Brother Howard  is still sick).  We came home, had lunch, took a nap, finished the laundry, made dinner and washed the dishes.  We will have FHE and then it will be time for bed.  We love all of you!!!

PURPLE BELT

Papaw helped clean the chapel at 8:00 AM on Saturday.  It was an easy job of arranging the hymn books and vacuuming the carpet except for some droppings that ended up out of reach of the machine.  He had to peek under all the pews to find these "loose ends" and then count the shadows to see how many rows to go back and attempt to pick them up by hand.  It only took about 45 minutes to get his portion done.

Mamaw says:  I got up early, studied, read, cooked breakfast, washed dishes, made my bed and made a casserole for the ward activity while Papaw helped clean the chapel.  We went down to Provo to see Tyler get his purple belt in Karate (Tyler, we are proud of you!!!).

Photo
Claudia called to say that she wouldn't be going to the ward activity tonight.  We picked up Irene and Roy Hall and took them to the activity with us.  The program was good but I was tired when we got home.  It had been a long day and I just went to bed.  We love all of you!!!

MENTORING

Sister Peverelle came into the ERC and created a profile on the ldsjobs.org web site with the assistance of Papaw.  Then she applied for a couple of Walmart job openings on the jobs.utah.gov web site.  She let all of Papaw's fellow CSM's know that he had been such a nice bishop to her and that Mamaw is her Visiting Teacher.  Now Papaw is Sister Peverelle's mentor.

Mamaw says:  I did my studying, fixed breakfast, washed dishes, made my bed, made a casserole, cleaned the bathroom, laundry room and blinds, took down curtains and washed doors and windows, had lunch, took a nap, read some of my book, had dinner and then watched TV until Papaw came home from the ERC.  We love all of you!!!

SHOPPING SPREE

Papaw took his woman on a shopping spree this morning and spent almost all of her money.  He came home and snoozed while pretending to prepare for his night career workshop this evening (six attended this session).

Mamaw says:  I got up early, studied, read, made breakfast, washed dishes, made my bed, went on neighborhood watch (it was too cold out there for anyone to be out doing mischief), went to Walmart to do some shopping, came home and put away the groceries, had lunch, took a nap, started reading a book (Each Little Bird That Sings) for our next book club meeting (I have read it before but have to refresh and be able to lead the group discussion), made dinner and then washed the dishes again.  I talked to Jean and Jewel  today.  Now I am watching TV while reading and waiting for Papaw to get home from teaching the Night Career Workshop.  We love all of you!!!

Papaw bought a three brightness socket for one of the table lamps and is looking forward to doing a little work.

Mamaw says:  I got up early, studied, read, cooked breakfast, washed dishes, did the ironing, made some waffles to put in the freezer, made my bed, made lunch, took a nap, got ready for book club, made dinner, and made some phone calls.  I am now watching the news and waiting for time to go to my book club meeting.  We love all of you!!!

DIGGING OUT

Papaw spent the morning digging Sister Peverelle's sidewalk out of the snow.  Virginia Peverelle came to our house after dark last night and told us her sidewalk needed to be cleared of the snow... we are her VT / HT team and this took care of the old man's loafing time for the day (at least for a couple of hours).  After lunch he tackled the leaky commode problem, completing the task with a little help from a valve he purchased at Lowe's.

Mamaw says:  I got up early, studied, mixed some pizza dough to rise, made breakfast, washed dishes, made beds, did laundry, talked to Buford (they are all well), did some cleaning, made lunch, took a nap, baked the pizza crust, cooked dinner and washed dishes again.  I am now watching the news and we will soon have FHE and go to bed.  We love all of you!!!

ALMOST THERE

Papaw thinks the last two chapters of his latest book are very interesting, in the notion it gives of the Second Comforter.

Mamaw says:  I got up early, studied, made my bed, cooked oatmeal for breakfast, got ready for church (my SS lesson was on CHARITY), after church we had lunch, I tried to take a nap but it was too cold (I should have cuddled up with my hubby but I warmed up my corn bag and turned on the heater instead of him), it is toasty and warm in here now ($$$), the news folks say it will get down to 5 below in SLC tonight (16 below in Provo)... needless to say, it is cold.  I am ready for bed.  We love all of you!!!

 ZAZEL, THE SCAPEGOAT

Papaw read the story of the scapegoat used on the Day of Atonement in his copy of THE PROMISED MESSIAH and thought this story from Lev.16 might be something to contemplate each week while partaking of the sacrament.

Mamaw said:  I got up early, studied, made breakfast, washed dishes, made my bed, cleaned some kitchen cabinets and the microwave, made lunch and took a nap.  Colleen came by to return a book, I talked to Jean on the phone, had dinner and washed dishes.  I am now watching Miss America... Jean said Miss Kentucky is from Pikeville and I want to see what she looks like.  It will soon be bed time.  We love all of you!!!

ONGOING AFFAIR

Papaw seems to have an ongoing affair with the snow shovel today.  It didn't snow very much but a light snow came off and on throughout the day.

Mamaw says:  I got up early, studied, made my bed and watched for news about the snow (snowfall varied up and down the valley and some folks were snowed in... some roads, and schools, were closed).  The forecast is for more snow tonight and a high of 17 degrees tomorrow.  I made a pot of stew (per Danni's suggestion), cleaned some of the cabinets in the kitchen, made lunch, took a nap, had dinner and have been watching news of the snow.  It will be bedtime soon.  We love all of you!!!

NEW FALLEN SNOW

Papaw and Elder Knapton closed down the ERC at about 6:10 PM so they could get a chance to drive in the snow before the salt trucks came by and made a mess of things.

Mamaw says:  I got up early, studied, made breakfast, washed dishes, cleaned the rest of the cabinets in the bathroom, had lunch, took a nap, read a book (I have almost finished it) and spent the afternoon watching our new snow storm swirl around outside.  I was glad to see the old man home early because it looks as if it is getting rough out there.  I am now watching TV and enjoying my COP shows.  We love all of you!!!

STOCKING THE SHELVES

Papaw did some price comparisons between Smith's and Walmart as he stocked up on toilet paper, soap and some other items.  It is amazing that an item can have 100% (or more) mark up in today's grocery stores.
Charmin Ultra Strong Bathroom Tissue, 24 Roll count
Mamaw says:  I got up early, studied for a little while, cooked  breakfast, washed dishes, made lunch, took a nap, read some more of my book, went Visiting Teaching, made dinner and washed the dishes (I didn't do a lot today except go on neighborhood watch).  I talked to Donna, Kristine and John (John got me enough Teaberry gum to last the rest of my life, I think that was the plan... and I plan to live a long time).  I am going to watch TV and go to bed.  We love all of you!!!

HE'S BACK

Papaw's back to his CSM assignment and conducted the combined West Jordan / WVC Member Employment Training meeting this evening for Brother Coil and Brother Van Walther.  We didn't have a very large crowd because of the cold weather and snow that has been on the ground for the last two weeks but it went well.

Mamaw says:  I got up early, studied, cooked breakfast, washed dishes, did the ironing, cleaned the top cabinets in the bathroom, cooked lunch, took a nap, read some of my book, went to RS and now I am going to watch the news on TV and go to bed.

Mamaw visited with Sister Downing and discovered that Lyn and Jim Downing will be flying to Hawaii a day before Cheryl and Dean Anderson.  They didn't have room in their suitcases for either of us and will have to leave us here in WVC.

We love all of you!!!

 LOAFING

Today was spent doing nothing exciting... may we should call it loafing.  Papaw read his The Promised Messiah and Mamaw found something to keep her cosy in the TV room.

Here's her story:  I got up early, studied, made breakfast, washed dishes, called Buford (all is well there, he's installing a fence), did the laundry, finished my book, made lunch, took a nap, started a new book, had dinner and watched the news.  We will have FHE and then go to bed.  We love all of you!!!

 BABY SHOWER

Mamaw forgot how she spent her day, except for the baby shower this evening.  While she was gone the old man picked up some picture hangers at HD and attempted to organize her new wall.

I deleted the file of photos on the camera and it took me a while to pull up the new photo of Mamaw's wall.

Just so that you know... WE LOVE ALL OF YOU!!!!

DINNER WITH THE MISSIONARIES

Mamaw got a call from our RS President last night and signed up to feed the missionaries today.  They are serving a Spanish Speaking Mission and assigned to our stake, one from HI and the other from Palm Springs, CA.  Papaw had the camera out but forgot to take a picture (an imitation from on-line will have to do for now).

Mamaw says:  I got up early, studied, read, made breakfast, washed dishes, made a peach cobbler, went shopping for a baby shower (for Sister Tibbs - tomorrow night), also got some picture frames, came home and had lunch, vacuumed the floor, finished my book, cooked dinner, had dinner with the missionaries, did the dishes, started another book and now I am watching TV.  I will go to bed soon.  We love all of you!!!

INCOMPLETE PROJECT

Papaw's JVC Camcorder to DVD exercise is incomplete.  He downloaded the video and it looked OK on his computer but the DVD looked horrible on TV (that's because he had to use a program called AVS to make the DVD... he should have used Everio, a program that came with the camcorder).  Oh well!  Just something else to do until the snow melts, and that's probably about three more months.

Mamaw says:  I got up early, studied, made my bed, made breakfast, did the dishes and did a little reading until time for neighborhood watch.  A fellow flagged us down on Sugar Maple Circle and gave us $20.00, thanked us for doing neighborhood watch and told us to take the money and go out to dinner.  We tried to give it back but he wouldn't take it.  We gave the money to Jim Downing because he is in charge of the program.  He said that we could put the money toward a party for the neighborhood watch folks.  I washed shower curtains and window curtains in the bathroom, got them ironed and put back up, made lunch, took a nap, read some of my book, picked out some storage items from Smith's case lot sale (spending the old man's money), made dinner and washed dishes.  I am now watching TV and will soon go to bed.  We love all of you!!!

Papaw charged up his JVC camcorder this afternoon and then watched a video of our Christmas dinner.  It didn't turn out very well but gives him some fodder to work with in learning how to film, playback and potentially make a DVD of his recordings.  Nice Christmas present he bought himself!!!

Mamaw says:  I got up early, studied, made my bed, looked at the blog, made biscuits (while waiting for my lazy man to get out of bed)  He didn't get up until about 7:30 AM... I thought he was going to sleep all day!
I finally decided to finish cooking breakfast and make a lot of noise (I didn'think about climbing in bed with him to see if he were still alive).  My noise making seemed to work well enough.  We had breakfast (eggs, grits and biscuits), washed the dishes, did the ironing, watched a video, The Ultimate Gift, that I got my fellow for Christmas, made lunch, took a nap, watched a video of our Christmas dinner, had dinner and washed the dishes.  It will soon be time for bed.  We love all of you!!!

NEW TV STAND

This morning Mamaw took her man to the store and came home with a TV stand.

Mamaw says: I got up early, studied, made breakfast, washed dishes, made my bed, did the laundry, got a haircut, went shopping and got a desk for the TV so I could put Papaw's night stand back in his room.  We also did the grocery shopping and had lunch and talked to Danni.  Donna and some of the wee ones stopped by.  It is really cold outside and it snowed a little today.  I made some corn bread sticks, had dinner  and washed the dishes.  I am now watching the news.  I will soon go to bed (even if it is New Year's Eve).  We love all of you!!!

SURVIVAL

Papaw survived the 5th Sunday presentation and is ready for New Year's Eve.  Let the party begin!!!   Maybe he will enjoy another toddy of cough syrup to get rid of the throat stuff (at least it isn't coming out of his nose).  He finished the last two chapters of the Millennial Messiah this evening and will have to browse the shelves to see if there is something interesting to read.

Mamaw says:  I got up early, studied my SS lesson, made my bed, cooked breakfast (pancakes), got ready for church, after church we had lunch and I took a nap, read some of my book and am now watching TV.

 BACK AMONG THE LIVING

Papaw thinks he is back among the living today.  He had to limber up a little from all the lounging over the last few days.  There is still a little congestion in his throat... maybe a little tonic will mask that for tomorrow.

Mamaw says:  I got up early, studied, made breakfast, washed dishes, made a pot of vegetable soup, changed sheets on the beds and washed them, made lunch, took a nap, read some of my new book, had dinner, washed dishes again and now I am watching the news.  It will soon be bed time.  We love all of you!!!

HAIRCUT, ETC.

Papaw got his hair cut this morning.  The rest of his day was spent shining up his notes about the ERC and doing some job searches (ie.  nothing exciting happening here).

Mamaw took some pictures of icicles for the blog...

Then she wrote:  I got up early, studied, sneaked out of the house to shovel snow before Papaw woke up (he is feeling better today), cooked breakfast, washed dishes, made my bed, (got all the inside Christmas decorations taken down yesterday) vacuumed the floors, did some laundry, made lunch and took a nap.  We had some huge icicles hanging from the front of our house and I thought you might like to see them....
I had dinner, talked to Jean and now I am watching TV.  It will soon be bed time.  We love all of you!!!

MERRY CHRISTMAS

Mamaw spent the morning cooking and preparing for our dinner today.  We had a lot of wraping paper left after everyone left this evening.  Papaw started to open one of his presents and couldn't open the puzzle box and then he forgot all about it until all the crew left and he was cleaning up.

Looks like he will have to try out his veteran's discount at HD!

We have to give Mamaw a bye on her blog for the day!  She would have said, "We love all of you!"

'TWAS THE NIGHT???

We join with all Christendom in celebration of what they deem to be the night of our Savior's birth.  I can imagine all the little ones being excited with our new fallen snow as they go to bed tonight.

We got about five inches of the white stuff this afternoon and it the two of us to clear the driveway.

Mamaw told the Christmas story she gave in her investigator class last Sunday as she tied bows on some items during our FHE.  We love all of you!!!
